Quarry Upcycled Cotton Watchcap
Quarry Upcycled Cotton Watchcap
The quarrying industry used to be one of New Yorks most thriving with quarries all over New York State. From as close as Yonkers to as far as the Fingerlakes the lime and monument stone needed to feed the exponential building boom of the early 20th century was a hugely profitable industry.
Now it's rare as most of the stone for buildings comes from Texas or the Midwest but we thought we'd make a color to give thanks to an industry that was difficult to work in, but we still see everyday in the buildings of Manhattan.

100% UPCYCLED ECO-COTTON
What is Eco-Cotton? Eco-Cotton is a blend of reclaimed cotton fibers from discarded garment scraps combined with nylon made from the incredible RPET process of recycling plastic (PET) bottles into fiber. Through a proprietary scrap fabric color matching system there are no dyes or chemicals used in the process of creating such vibrant colors from what would otherwise be textile waste. Check out the process HERE.

Yarn: This hat is made from RCotton and the yarn is milled in Spain by Ferre, a centuries old mill. Why Spain? Spain is home to the largest textile manufacturing factories in the world (Zara anyone?) and is a country that is decades ahead of any other country in recycling post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste produced by these factories. We purchase this yarn from their American partner mill, Hickory Throwing in North Carolina.
Production: Knit in Waterloo, NY by our friends and knitting partners at Mozaic Organization; a not-for-profit employing, assisting, and providing services to thousands of disabled person in the Fingerlakes, NY area. The raw knit material is then shipped in rolls to our Greenpoint, Brookyln sewing facility where it is cut, sewn, and finished by our lovely team.
Size & Fit
One Size
Length: 11-12" Inches (without fold)
Knit cotton is prone to stretch so if your hat feels a bit tight when you receive it, wearing it will quickly adjust it to your head. If you feel your hat starts to loosen too much over time, you can give it a hand-wash in warm water or machine wash in cold, lay it flat to dry, and it should spring right back.
Cotton is a lighter material, so these hats are meant to be worn as transitional hats. If you would prefer a warmer option, take a look at our Upcycled Wool Watchcaps!.
